The Hero’s Journey of John Schevers

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I love how I can touch people with my work and passion; that I can invent and create, learning my own truth through this process.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? Eckhart Tolle described this best. “All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.
What is my greatest fear? My greatest fear is not to be able to finish my journey.
What is the trait that I most deplore about myself? Being to judgemental. Dissecting everything on my path/ surroundings in order to understand the world around me.
What is my greatest extravagance? Having a big studio all to myself.
On what occasion would I lie? To protect the ones I love.
What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life?
By always wanting to move forward I believe that I create my own “chance encounters”. Being able to recognise and act on this has helped me to become an artist.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?
That it is all consuming. It is with me day and night; difficult to let go.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
Disappearing in my paintings; when everything slows down and all my thoughts are pure positive energy.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
I would like to have a few clones, so I could divide my time better between all the things I care about. My loved ones and my work.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
Inspiring other artists through my work and passion.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
The beautiful island I live on, named Quadra of the West Coast of Canada. With the ocean, lakes, forest and rocky shores.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink in my city?
Having a beer and fresh seafood; on the beach sitting around a campfire with my family.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?
My kids.
Whom would I like to work with in the future.
My friend Trinh Tuan from Hanoi. I was fortunate to study traditional Vietnamese lacquer with him when we lived in Vietnam for 2 years.
What project, in the nearby future, am I looking forward to work on?
The art symposium/exhibition in Malaysia in November this year. Working together with other international artists in an open studio setting.
